Well I've booked my motorcycle theory test for the 27th of October and ordered the CDROM (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009PMA3/qid=1063534132/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3_3/202-6621254-0841466) ... No going back now! :D Also I may possibly be getting one of these:

The fabulous piaggio X9 250:

The imposing, technologically avant-garde Piaggio X9 enters confidently into the higher segment of GT scooters, a type of vehicle that has recently exploded into a fashion phenomenon in Europe, and in Italy in particular. Everything on this Piaggio maxi scooter is designed for maximum comfort, protection and safety, in order to make it the new "king of the road".
The X9 is the fruit of sophisticated finite element calculation design and the latest structural simulation systems.
The lines of the new Piaggio maxi scooter, the flagship in the GT segment, were developed by the Piaggio Style , and optimised after numerous experimental sessions in wind tunnel tests.
The body work of the X9 is outstanding not only for its overall dimensions, but also for the intrinsic comfort of driver and passenger and for loading capacity. The storage compartment behind the cowling is flanked by another holder for a mobile telephone and other small objects, the storage area under the seat has an exceptional 45-litre volume, the large, comfortable seat has an outstanding finish made from top quality materials and the generous floor space ensures maximum comfort in all driving positions.
Driven by an ecological, powerful state-of-the-art 250 cc four-stroke liquid-cooled engine with a single camshaft, the Piaggio X9 frame has a double cradle tubular structure of outstanding flexural and torsional rigidity.
The front view emphasises the large hydraulic front fork with 35 mm downtubes, while at the rear there is a double damper which, combined with the large wheels (14" at the front, 13" at the rear), guarantee pinpoint steering.
Safety is also ensured by the superb braking system, which features three disc brakes 240 mm in diameter with Brembo serie Oro (the X9 is the only scooter in the world with three disc brakes) activated by an integral braking system which acts on one of the two front discs and on the rear disc.
The X9's ultra-modern design and style are emphasised by the colours selected for it: metallic Quartz Grey, Jade, Saturn Red, 3D Steel, Cobalt Blue, Enigma Green and pastel Black.
An exceptionally wide range of accessories has been designed around the vehicle to allow even the most unusual personalisation demands. Optional extras include a rear carrier, 48-litre top box, electro-hydraulic stand, heated handles, maxi-windscreen and electronic anti-theft device. :)

That's fairly swish looking and all, but I'd hardly call it the "king of the road" :p

I think the Ducati 999 would have something to say about that.

I amigine that the piaggio X9 250 will still set you back a fiar bit, and shouldnt you be spending money on more important things? such as mini-syns education fund??

Don't like those things. Death on two wheels tbh. Fine if you can handle it. I couldn't. The X9 isn't exactly bank breaking at £3600. I'll get £600 trade in for my 50cc and might manage a couple a hundred deposit too.
