ben be silenced.

Anywho. Most of the stuff i listen to is stuff that i've gone out and bought the whole cd or if i only liked 1 track then i ** it. The new online "mp3 stores" are starting to sound more and more appealing to me now. Most of the songs that i do have i ripped off a cd and the rest are all songs that i like, but the artist dosn't really mean anything to me.
tbh, i think i only have 2 or 3 songs in my collection that have actuklly came out in the last 8 months and the majority are from the 70s .

The Canadian courts also just reciently barred the RIAC from obtaining the names of IPs that have been downloading music. They did mange to get some names from a few of the crummy ISPs that easily gave in, but both of the ISP's in edmonton told them to go to hell.

At this point in time, the music industy is throwing crap at us and the RIAA is pissing me off to the point where i don't want to obtain my mp3s leagaly. Sueing people isnt gonna help imo.

I buy CDs of albums I really like - I'm one of those people the mp3 movement tried to convince the recording industry existed. I'll download albums to try them then buy them if they cut the mustard. Why should I pay for an album if it's gonna be complete crap?

I chose record tho simply cos no-one else will - I have a fair collection of vinyl since I am a hobby dj.

tbh i never bought an mp3. What bit rate are the ones you buy? I personally never find mp3s good as CD quality. 240kbps is getting there, I encode at 192k which is not kinda great but will do.

Mostly I go and buy random cds from a little shop in hong kong, they do cds you'll never find in anywhere else even on kazaa, and they their collection of metal music is bigger than the HMV in oxford street.

only time I ever go buy CD that i really like, i normally wait for HMV sales. But I get given alot of CDs, my aunt works in the sony music department and she gives me alot of cds, and I she gets me pre-releases and non-mastered copies.

hehe

99% of the time i just dl mp3s like ploweh said, to see if they're any good. If they are then i'll buy the record or (if I have to) CD.

As far as record VS CDs go, the way I see it - you get a warmth of sound from vinyl you cant get from CD - CD will be just the same as the MP3 I downloaded for free...
And you have something to hold.
And you have something that will INCREASE in value as time goes on, not all the time, obv, but a lot of the picture discs etc I have (ever see a picture CD? I've got a see-through one, but thats about it i think...) will be worth moneys down the line.

Imagine when darkness are considered the godfathers of rock, bill and ted style and I say "oh, by the way, I have the complete set of ltd 7 inches.."

I shall be rich!
Mwahahahaha!

The only Darkness bit that will be worth anything in the future is the limited edition screwed up shaped 'Don't Let The Bells End' Picture Disc. The rest will be gathering dust in Oxfam's '99p' bin.

I chose records. I would choose CDs but you can't get the music I play on CD.
