View Full Version : Sodding windows
I thought XP was a god send, as it was doing really well.
Then, the other day, my sound fuxed up and windows started chugging really badly (slow down).
So i reinstalled, since the installation i was running as an ME-XP upgrade.
That worked.. for 2 days. Then it started again :/
So I just reinstalled AGAIN... and now i think the problem is that my primary hard disk is dying! it seems to keep getting 'stuck' and having to stop and spin up again :
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

ok ok ok
don't panic!!
Have a look at your CPU usage? does it start jumping up to 100% if say you do something??
It might be a similar problem to what I was having - basically every so often my computer would go sooooo slow. I narrowed it down to when i opend up a folder on my hard disk. I thought it might be a damaged part of my hard disk or somethign like the page file and memory thrashing (???). Now my latest theory is that it's to do with incomplete .avi files. Windows tries to open them to make a preview or something like that and if the file doesn't have an end then windows keeps looking for one and the shit hits the fan.
Basically all i'm saying is that it might not be what you fear.

its doing it again :
it seems to be everything... when i do something like install a proggy or summat the sound skips and mouse lags and stuff...
whilst i would expect that on a low-spec machine, this is not one. and its worked perfectly for ages (about 6 months!)
