View Full Version : hanging system please help
here i am agian asking for help but i would like any possible as i am stuck
i have an abit kr7a 133 and all the parts listed:
amd 1700xp cpu
gainward ti4200 128mb
512mb pc2100 ram
300watt psu
and have two hdd
maxtor 20gb(primary boot) and ibm 80gb(slave no os)
when booting it goes through the main post but it comes up with the message
pxe m04 hooking bootstrap interrupt 18h....
then carries on the startup sequence but when says checking cashe hangs and will not progress
i have tried changing the boot up sequence and putting the windows 98 cd so it boots off that but there is no success i am at a loss what to do when trying to modify the cmos it restarts and does not even attepmt to do the post.
hmmm weird!!
first off glad to hear u got ur ti4200 finally :D
now... i dunno wtf that error means (:() so we're gonna have to try the old way. you wanna go right back to basics and see if you can get ANYTHING to work.
plug up the motherboard, cpu, ram, graphics card, primary hard disk, cd-rom... i think that'll do. when i say plug them up, if you already have, DO IT AGAIN. i say this cos i once struggled for hours with my pc, only to find the graphics card wasn't all the way in the slot :shake:
see if you can get into the bios. if so, w00, whatever u have left out, try putting in one at a time. if the fault arises you know what's b0rked.
if not, then u need to try swapping things out. put ur gfx card in instead. try different ram. etc etc.
i will try and find out about that error now ;)
oooh i think it might be ur network card if u have one...
From Dell.com:
Setting the Correct Interrupt
During boot, the LSA works in conjunction with the system BIOS. Current versions of LSA use the 18h interrupt, while prior versions use 19h for compatibility with older BIOS chips. If your computer fails to start with LSA, you may need to manually switch the interrupt.
To see which interrupt your system is using, boot the system with LSA and look for one of the following messages:
PXE-M04: Hooking bootstrap interrupt 18h...
PXE-M04: Hooking bootstrap interrupt 19h...
To toggle between interrupts during boot, press <Ctrl> <t>. If you change the value, it will be stored in the EEPROM on the adapter and will not need to be changed again.

thanks i tried switching it but that didn't seem to help all i came up was with 19h instead of 18h i thinks ill be returuning them :)
I don't think its an error message then, your best bet is probably to pull out all the cards one by one like plow says and see when the computer starts to boot again.

today I've been getting the same error just at the end of post.
PXE-MOE HOOKINg bootstrap blah 18th
the machine still boots, but lags at the "Windows" page. never did that before.
So, what did i change?
Well today I just put in a NIC for dsl.
that's the only change. any ideas?

So THATS where the naughty terrorist was hiding - in holymans pc!
for future reference, take the network card out of the boot sequence in the bios setup.
