The year, 2012. The place, my messy home office in Ankara, Turkey.
I’m Tim. Back in the early “noughties” (as much as I hate to validate that term by using it) I and a crack team of fellow nerds wrote some reviews of geeky stuff like heatsinks and computer cases. We had fun, and we even got some cool free gadgets (and some really naff ones) to play with. I made some mistakes, like sending a £400 professional sound card to some sod who never wrote the review for me. And telling people their reviews were “great, thanks” when in actual fact they were a pile of arse but I was too nice to utter the truth. And flunking out of Loughborough University because I was spending all my time fiddling about with cold cathodes and window mods. But I also got to cut my tooth on “journalism”, something that would later become… entirely useless to me.
I founded the site in 2001 (I think), and now I have resurrected it. Why, you may ask? Well I’m not entirely sure. I’ve continued to renew the domain name for mainly nostalgic reasons and I’ve copied my local backup of the content across all of the various new and upgraded computers I’ve had since the site was live. I really enjoyed running the site and the forum (although I don’t think that will be back, sorry to all the half dozen regular posters…) and I actually came to know some pretty excellent people through doing it.
I’d like to do this kind of thing again. Maybe I will get that opportunity some day. So in a way this is my CV. I’ve only uploaded the articles and reviews I wrote myself, mainly for this reason.
Oh, except the MAME PC article. I didn’t write that. I put it up because I think it’s quite nifty.
Buhbye!
The various changing members of the team, in alphabetical order and purely from my fuzzy memory:
Carlos_Fandango
dash
donkeyhumper
fuzzy
Gecko
GillianChung
lonedawg (he really didn’t help, more like hinder, but I love him)
rayz00
Renko
Synaptyx (kinda.. mostly in the forum)
A bit of fun…
This is how the site looked before we finally broke it and couldn’t be bothered to try and fix it anymore:
